In order to demonstrate it is important to learn some key techniques and skills. This will allow you stop a practice game and demonstrate the correct technique.

Techniques are how to do specific things required in a game of football.

The techniques you need to cover in 6th and 7th grade are:

Push Pass
Dribbling
Running with the ball

Skills relate to how and when to you use the technique. For example push passing is a technique; how to control a moving ball so you can push pass and where and when to push pass are skills.

Push pass

* Kick with the inside surface of the foot.
* Shoulders square
* Plant foot toe pointed where the ball should go
* Foot should hit the middle of the ball so it rolls along the ground
* Knee of the kicking foot should be bent
* Lock the ankle on the kicking foot
* Develop both feet

Dribbling

* Head up
* Inside and outside surfaces
* Both feet
* Ball should stay in control
* Turns Drag Back, Inside and Outside Hook.

In general players should go slow into turns and accelerate out of them.

Drag Back Turn

* Plant foot behind the ball
* Use bottom of foot on top of the ball to drag back
* Body should turn with the ball
* The ball should always be protected
* Accelerate away

Inside Hook Turn

* Plant foot behind/beside the ball, turned 45 degrees in direction of the turn
* Use inside of the foot
* Ball should stay close to the body
* Accelerate away

Outside Hook Turn

* Plant foot just ahead of the ball
* Use outside of the foot
* Ball should stay close to the body
* Accelerate away

Running with the ball

* Head up (vision)
* As few touches as possible (speed is key)
* Ball in control (do not let it become contestable)
* Finish with a purpose: a pass, a shot, a cross or beat a defender.
