Overview
It's not often you can describe nil all draws as exciting but today was different. An action packed game saw both defences on top as neither team could find the finishing touch. In typical Auckland fashion the players had to deal with wind, heavy rain and gorgeous sunshine in 90 minutes but the new field at Madills Farm held up well.
The intensions were clear right from the start as Marlies Oostam clattered into Bella Bramwell and both teams set about attacking as quick as possible. Springs did well in the opening exchanges, Tagaloa looked sharp up front and Robinson showed some lovely touches. Springs had the best chances of the first half, Tagaloa and Bramwell both making excellent runs and getting into the box only to see their shots go just wide of the far post. It was a evenly fought game and neither side was going to give away silly goals, at the break both teams entered the dressing room not quite hitting top gear.

The second half provided two scoring chances of note, one for either team. First Suburbs striker Rebecca Tegg was disallowed a headed goal from a corner after pushing Nelson out the way before her jump. Then Springs striker Penny Chapman hit the bar with a 25 yard free kick which dropped down to safety.
Valentine and Verdon were excellent at the back for Springs but the player of the day was Goalkeeper Pam Yates who made a string of class saves that keep the scoreline goalless. Both teams can be happy with a point and their performances, some tough games coming up too with Springs hosting title contenders Three Kings next weekend at Seddon Fields.

Coaches Comment
"We are happy with the performance and result today. Suburbs are going to be up there this season so to come here and get a point is pleasing. We put in a good solid performances all round, Pam was excellent in goal, showed good decision making and judgement in reading situtaions and made a crucial save at the end. Hannah frustrated their two strikers all day and looked mature in her defending."
"We were perhaps a little aprehensive at times and could have commited more players forward but thats something we can add to our game when we play away from home."
"The most pleasing factor we can take from today is that every single one of our players showed they can play at this level, we have such talent in our squad, they just need to keep believing in themselves."
