Overview.
Most people would have predicted a Springs win before kick off but few would have predicted the emphatic nature of the victory. Springs didn't hold back and scored a resounding 18-nil victory over Papatoetoe AFC. All credit to the home side who are two leagues below Springs they never stopped trying, the keep the score down in the second spell and the Papatoetoe keeper made a number of good saves to keep it to under 20 goals.
The first half was breath-taking at times with a blast of goals making it 11-0 at half time. Bella Bramwell who was captain for the day lead by example and produced a show in the 45 minutes, everything seemed to be coming through her. The pick of the first half goals was Rosie White's hat-trick goal, a unbelieavle turn and nutmeg before a clinical finish.
The second half slowed down a little and didn't have as much flow but that was down to Papatoetoe's change of tactics, they crowded the edge of the penalty box and Springs passing became stifled, however the hoops found the net a further 7 times in the second half and came within 2 goals of equalling the all time cup record.
Coaches Comment
"We have been asking the team to be more ruthless lately, it's something we have lacked at times this season but thats an area for growth. They have responded with two very good performances this weekend and today they sent out the message we were looking for. We are very happy with the way we conducted yourselves and played today."
"Everyone did well so it will take ages to go through the whole team but special mentions for Melissa who scored two goals, she did great when she came on. Nikau and Nadia also scored their first goals for the Premier Team which is great."
"The most pleasing thing today was we keep trying to do the right things, we didn't resort to long balls in behind, we played good football and were creative. We are starting to become a little more ruthless but we are not there yet and need to be next week because we have a big game against Suburbs but great start to the cup run, lets hope we can go all the way this season."
